So after surfing POTN this week (been laid up with a sprained back) I decided to try some more night photography.

I'm struggling a bit on the outrigger photos, the boats and foreground is just too dark and if I leave the shutter open longer I blow out the sky. The only editing software I have is Aperture and to be honest I have no idea how to use it

I like this last one best but I can see I cut the top of the roof off, whoops.

your top two photos, like you said the foreground is underexposed. In this case I would have overexposed the sky a bit so I would bring up the exposure on the foreground. I would use a graduated filter (Adobe Lightroom has one. I'm sure Aperture has one too) to bring down the sky's exposure.

Thanks, just looking thru now and I don't think aperture has that option. Which is a bugger as I'm off to Europe in two months so I can't afford to buy any plugins right till afterwards.

I like the third one the best too... the foreground is just too dark in the first two.
