Just an FYI... if you are in Texas and shop at Amazon, they will start collecting sales tax July 1st.

They just never got anything passed til last year. Amazon was going to fight it but the government did some backroom dealing to get them to play along and not send it to a popular vote (which probably would have gone against a tax). Amazon agreed to not press any further and all stores are supposed to start collecting sales tax starting mid-September.

Yep, just a matter of time before we all pay for the bandwidth we use, too.

CR*P! I buy a ton of stuff from them. :( But I knew it was coming sooner or later. Anytime a dollar can be found governmental regulation and tax is soon to follow. Pretty soon the whole internet will be taxed and regulated by Uncle Sam.

^^ It already is, but to our benefit, since it pretty much makes telecoms eat the cost of bandwidth.

Wait until Amazon has to pay by the MB.....

Most e-commerce is a distortion of the free market because we think it is 'free.'

Am I the only one that thinks every state should collect it?

Nope. I don't want my state income taxes to keep going up as they cut my local school budget funding which makes my property tax go up just because people want to avoid paying the sales tax.

Follow the money -- it is the vendors running that game, not consumers, not the state.

Yet.

I too wish they would. Every state is hurting because they are not getting their needed revenue ever since the internet shopping has become the rage decades ago.

Even with taxes included, I will still shop online. Better prices, don't have to waste gas, and less time.

I am all for charging taxes.

Illinois is hurting because of corruption, not because of internet sales.
