I've searched for this topic on here already and I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for, so if there is an answer that has already been posted, please, be nice!!

I have a 1ds mk ii and I want to be able to shoot tethered to a laptop for an upcoming event. The camera has mini USB & 1398 FireWire ports to connect it up to a computer. This Is fine for uploading once the files have been written but I want to be able to transfer J-Peg images to a laptop within a few seconds so that they can be viewed. Files don't have to be huge on this occasion.

I'm using Lightroom for the import and I've got it to see the camera in tethered mode but it won't import the files.

My question is, is there an additional setting in camera that I have to change, can you actually shoot tethered this way or is there another way it can be done. I know there is an expensive add on piece of kit you can buy but just now, I can't justify the expense!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Phil

I have shot tethered with the 1d Mark IIn using Canon's EOS Utility. There is an option to write files to both the computer and camera. However, your PC will need a IEEE1394 (Firewire) port. The USB port on the older 1d bodies cannot be used for tethered shooting.
