We have a car mad plumber working in our house and he has asked me to see what I can do with a phone camera image of his pride and joy, a much modified Suburu with over 400 bhp.

I don't even know how to upload from a camera phone. Is it easy or do we need some software?

He is bringing his PC connection cable on Tomorrow morning and I'd like to be as up to speed as poss before then. And before anyone asks, no, I don't have a clue what make his flash looking rectangular flattish with rounded edges box of tricks is.

Sorry to be so dense.

It depends on the phone and your PC. Mine was as simple as plugging a USB cable into my phone. No software needed, no drivers needed other than what comes std in W7.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Richard,

Could his 'all singing, all dancing' mobile phone email it to you?

Another option is wireless, if you have this in your residence.

Shows how daft I am. I did not think of that.

With a USB connection to the phone, it should be 'drag and drop' to copy the file from the phone to the PC...but it might be necessary for the photos to be on a memory chip in the phone, not simply on the internal memory of the phone.
When you first plug in the phone, the computer may also need download a driver from the web.

My grateful thanks to you all, my plumber has emailed me two 72ppi images and I've resampled up to 300ppi and applied various pixel genius sharpening options. While a little soft for my own liking he's sure to be pleased with them.

I've printed them both at 40.5cm x 30.5cm and given them mounts and backing boards. I propose presenting them to him tomorrow in clear film envelopes which I think adds to the "professional" look.

Kev,

He has just arrived and seen them. Yes, he is very pleased with them.

My thanks again to everyone. It's a great surprise to see how effectively a 72ppi camera phone image can be tidied up. Alright, its not the quality I'd expect from my own kit, but my glass has cost me a small fortune.

The 72ppi figure in itself is meaningless.
If the phone has a somewhat decent camera, you can get pretty okay prints. Up to about 5x7 or so was okay for my old Sony Ericson.

Rene,

While I was not expecting the result to be very good, I was pleasantly surprised at what was possible to drag out of such small images . The owner of the two cars is over the moon.
