Right now I have:

50mm 1.4
16-35 2.8L II
24-105 4L IS
100-400 4.5-5.6L IS

I'm wondering what lens to get next. I'm thinking maybe 70-200 f4L IS for backpacking (1/2 the weight though also 1/2 the zoom of the 100-400). Or maybe the 100mm L macro. Or the 8-15 fisheye zoom. Or another prime. I can't decide.

Make a list of what you want on little tear off strips, tear them off and put your choices in a hat. Draw one, but it. Save the remaining slips for when you need to do this again.

70-200 f4L is a very nice lens. It doesn't get a lot of play because of the 2.8 I think, but it's a great sharp, light telephoto for packing. I have one for longer focal length landscapes.

What do you want to do next? What photographs do you want to do that you can't do now with the equipment you have? Frankly, the only change I'd make to your lineup would be to change that 100-400 to a 70-200 f2.8, and that would do everything I want to do with my photography.

But you have to answer that question for yourself. What do you want to do that your equipment prevents you from doing?

I agree, except I would keep the 100-400 and get the 70-200 f4 !

The 100L is a great choice. It is my most used lens right now!

Ha, that's a good idea.

Some other thoughts I've had are:

A wide ZE prime, probably 21
One of the TSE lenses. I've tried the 24 before, amazing. I may rent the 17 next.

I shoot almost entirely landscapes, and I love to shoot telephoto landscapes.
