Ruffed Grouse nibbling Catkins

While trying to photograph a sapsucker that was playing shy (that's another thread...) I thought I kept hearing movement off to my left..finally I glanced up.
I believe this is a female, she was rather poorly lit but I didn't want to move to a better angle for fear of scaring away the sapsucker (or her), so took what I could get from where I was.

The speckles around her head are the remnants of the catkin as she shook them off.

These are excellent images showing the feeding habits of the Ruffed Grouse... I know these are tough shots to come by at this sky angle, but you did a yo-man's job photographing this set... nice shooting.

Nice series. Shooting up into a tree is tough to get right. You did a really nice job.

Thanks...A "grouse in a tree" has been on my photographic want list for some time...Now I just need to find a better opportunity.
