This is me and my girl Mirai. I'm working on training her right now, but you can give me tips on my Eq and her form or confirmation, and tips on how I can set my camera up to get better shots.

I'm confused. You're looking for tips on training your horse, or improving your shots?

sorry. now that I look at it, it is confusing. just tips on both. But my mom was the one to take these shots, but its good to know the best settings since I set my camera up for her so she can take the pictures when I need her too.

I can't see EXIF. Is your camera on full auto? Shadows look like this is midday. Use a semi-manual mode, I like AV for conditions like this. Add +1/3 or +2/3 EV for shots like two and three that have a lot of the horse in a shadow. Get your shutter speed faster - much faster. There is no reason here to have anything less than 1/1000 sec.

I know nothing about riding except this is not the way to end a jump: http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net …12207393_1617630190_n.jpg (external link) Both horse and rider were okay.

I know the photographer. She works hard and gets spectacular shots.

nice shots, it would be helpful to have the exif data. they look a tiny bit blurry, try bumping the shutter speed up

My mom was the one taking the pictures, and i'm the person on the horse. my friend has the same camera as me and said that using landscape gets good action shots when it comes to riding, so I thought I would try it out. Its hard to change your camera settings while riding....

You have a beautiful horse. Getting really nice pics consistently will require that you (or your Mom) learn to move beyond landscape mode or running man mode or any of the pre-programmed modes. What type of camera do you have?

Here's some tips till then:

1. Have you Mom get low to take the picture. Sitting on the ground is good.

2. When getting in position for the shot, Think of what the background will look like. Avoid trash or debris. Grass and trees are much better.

3. We like to see faces not butts--both you and the horse.

The first shot has some nice aspects. We see your face, the sun shows off the color of the horse (no shadows) and it is a good action moment.

On the minus side, the background is too cluttered with the building, wood, and blue gate. There is some blur on the jump itself. That's where there photographer will need to control the shutter speed and other aspects of the camera. Pictures usually have information on the settings included with the image. What camera are you using? Do you know how to find out what shutter speed and aperture were used for this picture? If so, what were they?

I can see thee EXIF data on the pics. Your shutter speed needs to be higher for action shots, Next time try Av mode, ISO 400 and make sure the shutter speed is higher than 1/250, preferably 1/1000.
Also, the 75-300 is one of the worst lens, spend a little more and get the Canon 55-250IS - only $150 but it's much better
