Found this big black bird at marshes of Beach Island Park, NJ.
My best guess is that it is Boat-tailed Grackle.
Could someone can positively ID it please?
Thanks.

common grackle is 12" The boat-tail is 16" and mostly along the east coast. I'm not sure if they are in Jersey.

Hard to get a ruler and measure its tail
Seen few common grackles, but this one is huge compared to them.
Looks like another case of UBB (Unknown Black Bird) to me :D
I will look at maps or reports for the east coast for some data about boat-tails.
Thanks Fishbreath.

My book confirms a boat-tail, both by range and a rounder head than the common and the great-tail

I believe the great tail is in the Texas area.
I'll look in stokes field guide to compare the heads, didn't know that but then again we don't have boat-tails here.

Thanks Rog.
Indeed I did look at the head shape and geographic location of the bird.
After all, another new bird for me :D

The great tail is in Texas/southwest.
