Similar to the high-risk option, but see if you can pick up a super-cheap waterproof housing for it and use it for snorkling/diving if you're into that.

I gave my 20D to a close friend who shoots Olympus and her husband wanted to start shooting. She is now been saving for over a year to change systems. They just don't have the money. If you have someone to share it with it could change their life in some regards. Wish I could afford to help my friends again.
You will know what to do.

Sell it for more than it's worth to your local unsuspecting church.

Somebody, somewhere would be over the moon to be its new owner.

Depending on how old the kid(s) are I would pass it down to them .... at least I'm thinking about doing that when I get a MkIII in a few months.... give the T3i to my GF and give her xsi to my daughter.

I see we all struggle with which way to go. Re: the kids, they're college age, but I'm afraid they'll think the 30D is too heavy and large vs. smaller Rebel bodies.

I first got properly into photography when an old guy gave me his deceased son's gear. I was 14yo. Forty years on, I'm even more grateful for his kindness now than I was back then.

So, why not give it away to some youngster you see trying to take pics with a cheap camera?

I used to own a XTi and I passed it onto my son along with EF28-80, EF75-300, bag and a Bogen tripod.
Much better to know it is being used by a relative that appreciates the gift - more so than a few $ in your pocket would.

My vote would be to use it in situations where you would feel your main camera is in peril. Take it rock climbing, kayaking, snowboarding, mount it to the bottom of a car... get some cool perspectives that you normally would not get because you would fear for the life of your camera.

Keep it for wildlife or just extra reach in general. It never hurts to have an extra camera.

I also have a spare 30D after buying a 5DII. I was going to sell it until I saw what its worth now. Personally the camera is worth more keeping than pocketing $260.00.

Im thinking of offering mine to my older cousin who has been shooting nothing but film for 45 years. See if he bites. Tell him it doesn't cost anything to try it out, the film's free.
I never thought of the dangerous shoot options or some of the other suggestions some people offered. All good ideas.I think giving it to someone you know will use it and appreciate it is best. If not, hang on to it. It is still a camera that's capable of making great photos.

I know Canon will allow you to trade in an old body and receive a discount towards a new body. Can you not trade in the old body and receive a credit towards a new lens? Sorry with my unfamiliarity of how that system works.

Personally, I'd hold on to it until I found someone who you could donate it to that would truly appreciate it.

passing in on to one of my kids,

If your kids have a real interest in photography, pass it on to them.

If not, then perhaps find another child who has said interest in photography and pass it along to them.

That's what I did, in a way. I passed my 10D and 20D ( as a loan ) on to a local High School photography club and the cameras are used by students in the club as well as by student photographers who take pictures for the schools newspaper and year book committees.

The school will return them to me when they deem them no longer needed.
