A friend wants to buy my T2i kit - Does it sound like a good fit?

So, I have a friend who is interested in buying my 550D off of me along with my two EF-S lenses, the canon grip etc. She has never owned a DSLR before and only has a point n'shoot, but she told me she hates it. I asked her why she found her current camera limiting - did she struggle to capture moving subjects, dark environments, etc? This is what she replied:

"Exactly, the quality really is just not there.
Kaitlin and I are planning a trip to Africa summer of 2014, I would want to get great photos. That being said, I know nothing about cameras. So, second hand works for me, it would have to be capable of low light, no flash shots, we are going gorilla trekking! I would also need to learn to use it, of course not the way you can take a photo, but at least to take a photo!"

The T2i is an entry level camera, its what I learned on so I don't see why someone else couldn't learn on it...but I just wanted to hear some other opinions on if you think this is a good fit of skill-level and camera body. I wouldn't be just handing it over to her and not giving her some tips ;) but I certainly cannot teach her everything or every definition, because she wouldn't understand it without putting some time into just messing around with the camera and learning these things herself (at least, thats how I learn best.)

Something that concerns me is when she said "no flash shots" ... well the T2i has a built in flash but I dont think it would be strong enough to reach gorillas anyway. Certainly I think the ISO/low-light capabilities of the T2i are better than a point n' shoot at least ( ??? ), so maybe it would be plenty for her.

What do you think? Or should I be directing her to a T3 or the future T4i (though it will be more expensive than my used T2i kit) or something else entirely?

I think she'll be fine. There's still full auto mode. I'm not sure what kind of person she is (procrastinator or not), but that trip is 2 years away and she'll have plenty of time to learn how to use it. That being said, if she's expecting great shots in the dark without a flash, I think she's going to be disappointed in any camera. She'll probably have to rent some glass regardless.

I think she should be happy with the T2i. I can understand the frustration with point and shoots - not enough control.

I would not have a concern re: "...the T2i has a built in flash but I dont think it would be strong enough to reach gorillas anyway." The point is she needs a camera where the flash can positively be turned off. With wildlife, even at a few hundred feet where the flash is useless, a flash might spook the animals causing them to leave the immediate area. There are opportunities to take early morning and late evening pictures at watering holes but even then the flash should not be used.

My last trip over was in film days and I got by with ASA 800 or 1600 film and I don't recall ever using my flash, except for a post trip party in a restaurant.
