Just picked up a sub-$800 24mm TSE (mk1). I know it's nowhere near as sharp and contrasty as the new mk2, but it's less than half the price. Now I can explore the world of tilt-shift

Let me know how it handles because I was actually looking at one. Crazy, but I really do want to experiment with a TS lens.

You want a lot of things. First get a 17-40L or 24-70L :)

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be a dedicated thread for the 24 TSE mk1. If there is, my 5-6 searches didn't uncover it.

Pass on the 24-70. The price is going to fall once the mk2 actually starts shipping. For now, the prices may actually go up.

Well, of course. But hopefully if I get a lot of work this summer - paid that is - I'll be able to buy a few extra goodies.

Well, I know you review gear honestly so if it's a waste of $800 the don't recommend it.

Well, I guess the 17-40 is a need, but if need be and I shoot a wedding I may rent the 24-70 for a couple of days... although I would rather not, but I may.

I can tell you right now that it's nowhere near as sharp as the mk2, and contrast is horrible on the edges when shifted. Beggers can't be choosers when getting into tilt-shift. Even the crap lenses are expensive.

Oh, and no autofocus. That certainly turns off a lot of potential owners

If the effect is something you want, then paying for a tilt-shift isn't a waste...

Well folks, I’m almost recovered now.
Shooting my first wedding this year on Saturday. All because of Hawaii stupidity/accident.
Lots of new gear to experience with... looking forward to it :)
