The bird migration through my yard had seemed to grind to a halt until the Grosbeaks arrived about a week ago. I was happy to see them as I didn't have any last year at all. As is often the case, I was easily outwitted in my attempts to position myself for a decent capture of these beauties. I was afraid that the only capture I would be able to obtain was the one just below taken from across my backyard. A first time capture for me, but woefully documentary at best.

When this male showed up at the "feeding stump" last night I decided to swallow my pride, jack up the ISO, and shoot through the sliding glass door. Only 1 image out of 7-8 turned out to be good enough to share. I've taken some artistic license in order to clean it up, but have included an unedited crop for the purists.

And the original......I think you can see why I cleaned it up a bit.

In addition, I was able to document the arrival of the first female Ruby-throated Hummingbird earlier this month (04/02) as she attempted to feed on a blooming tree in my backyard. She caught me by surprise and I was only able to muster these images....more to come later I'm sure.

Thank you for having a look at these and as usual all comments are welcomed.

Pretty set of shots Steve... happy your Rosies showed up this year, the profile shot is very nice. I usually get them back the second week of May.
The first hummingbird image is a neat perspective... the subtle colors are beautiful.

Steve, I reckon you could write a book about the back yard birds you get visiting. Very interesting series, looking forward to more Hummingbird shots :)

Kudos to you for full disclosure. A bird through the glass is better than no bird at all. I can't get any Cardinal shots if I even have my sliding door open just enough for the lens to poke through. If I shoot through the glass they aren't afraid at all.

Great shots Steve, it's always special when the RBGB's show up for a brief stop.

Thanks Rick. As I said, hopefully more hummingbird shots after about July 4th.

I appreciate it Dave. I'm glad the RBGB came through too as they seem to be gone now.
I'll have to find out what kind of tree that is that the lady hummer was checking out as I have no idea.

They are a sight to behold Fee and I hope for you that you get a chance to see and capture any of the Grosbeaks. I appreciate the PP compliment, and I'd be glad to share my knowledge.

Haha, thanks Mark. I am blessed w/a great backyard and still have a few more to go....including more hummers.

You're very kind Claude. The PP wasn't that difficult and like photography just takes some practice.

I appreciate it greatly Chris. I'm glad I went ahead w/the captures as it seems he left the next day; and the problems you have w/your Cardinals is exactly the problem I have w/Blue Jays.

You're very kind Gary, and I hope your RBs come see you as I'd love to see some of your captures of them.

I agree 100% Sharon and I always feel a little more excitement when they're around. Thanks as always for your lovely comments.
