Hey everybody,

I received the Sony Alpha 57 a few days ago and so far it is nothing short of incredible!! Sony ironed out a lot of the issues with the A77 in this model I believe. Sony improved the ergonomics quite a bit as well with a better grip and thumb support.

Image quality is phenomenal as you would expect!!

The AF is also awesome and better than the A77 pre-firmware update in my opinion. The 12fps feature not only works, but it works incredible well!!

Did Sony fix the general uselessness of the EVF when it comes to burst shooting? All previous Sony 'SLT' bodies boast a high frame rate that is close to useless since the EVF does not update continuously while shooting. Until Sony fixes this, I consider all Sony SLT bodies to be a 1 shot / second capable system no matter what kind of burst the spec sheet boasts.

I'd also like to see Sony kicking out a sensor high ISO performance that is at least 1/2 stop better than all competitors in order to offset the loss to the partial mirror. At that point, this camera would be competitive with the current Nikon and Canon lines.

Thanks for the comments, and yes the EVF now updates when shooting on 12fps mode so you can actually track your subjects now ;)

You really want a list?

The Sony Nex-7 got 4 stars out of 5, the Tamron 90mm got 3.5 stars out of 5, the Sony A77 got 4 out of 5 stars, 16mm e-mount got 4 stars soft corners, etc.... Value for dollar most of this gear is great in my opinion, but not Phenomenal ;)

The A57 make get 5 out of 5 however. The image quality on all the Sony's I've tested however is Phenomenal, so perhaps that is where you heard the term from me?

Best,
Jay

I would get definitely get the A57 over the A65, in fact I would get it over the A77 simple for the Price and feature set. It's a better bang for the buck than the A77 in my opinion.

Best,
Jay

Well the 55-200mm is not what you said sharp for all focal lengths ;). It's muddy . I'd give 55-200 a 2 stars!.

Phenomenal is another word for great. Not necessary compared to anything. You can easily compare them to other sample pics on the web though.

You must have a bad copy of the lens then as that is one of the Best E-Mount lenses for the money in my opinion. Look at my sample photos as they speak for themselves and all the exif info is intact. That lens was sharp at all focal lengths!! Now it wasn't razor blade sharp corner to corner like a Zeiss lens or Canon L Glass, but for the money it's a "Phenomenal" lens in my opinion. 4.5 stars!!

Here is the review DarthVader is referring to if anybody else wants to see for themselves.

It's not even as good as Tamron 70-300 VC which is around that price during rebate ($350 at Adorama now). So honestly it's not phenomenal :).
