Does anybody Have any suggestions for a reasonably prices boom/stand to hold a AB1600 with a 22'' beauty dish or softbox? Any thoughts on this one? http://www.adorama.com/BG3398B.html
Thanks

I have that boom and I can absolutely not recommend it for use with large studio strobes and heavy modifiers. I use it with a speedlite and 24" softbox at most - even then I do not always feel confident with it. I use a Manfrotto 085BS with B1600 (well, just sold that...now waiting on an Einstein to arrive) and beauty dish and softboxes. It seperates the tilt adjustment from the boom arm slide to adjust the balance. Since the adjustments are seperated, it makes changing positions much easier and safer IMHO.

Have any links to that? Thanks 5D MKii - 7D - Sigma 10-20 - 24-70L - 50mm 1.8 - 70-200L 2.8 IS - 430ex ii - AB1600/vegabond mini -

Any thoughts on this one? http://www.adorama.com/BG3398B.html One of the things to consider is if you are going to use the boom for location work. There are booms that have a "Leveling Leg" that can be set up on uneven ground. I recently picked up an Avenger A4039CS and I am quite happy with it.

May 02, 2012 21:30 | #9 It will mainly be used for location work.. What about this one here? Maximum load is 11 lbs VS. the 13 lbs for the 4039CS, but It has the leveling leg. It would be use with the 22'' BD and AB1600 about 95% of the time with a vagabond mini.. and most likely never fully extended. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …475B_Baby_Combi_Boom.html 5D MKii - 7D - Sigma 10-20 - 24-70L - 50mm 1.8 - 70-200L 2.8 IS - 430ex ii - AB1600/vegabond mini -

I use 40" grip arm on Avenger A420 with Kacey dish or 37" octa with my AB800 or Einstein. Also need drop down pin. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

According to the decsription, you'd be right about at the limits of the stand. The 4039 is only 60 bucks more and is a BEAST. Unless you really didn't like the weight of the 4039, I'd get it. You'll never outgrow the thing. Spend 60 bucks more and buy once.
