I've now show 3 weddings with my 5D3 and in many ways I'm disappointed. The high ISO sensitivity doesn't show much improvement over the 5D2, 1D3, 1Ds3. I say that in reference to the ISO's 1600 and 3200.

Now that is not my complaint. With every lens I have over 35mm* the 5D3 will not lock focus for way too long in low light situations even with a speedlight's focus assist. That being said I'm not overly pleased with the performance of the 35 1.4

Last night I worked with a friend who has 2 5D3's and he has the exact same complaint so I know it's not me.

Anyone else?

Note: The focus priority/release priority is worthless. If you have it on release priority the pictures will just be out of focus.

*Lenses with low light focus issues on 5D3: 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2, 100mm macro L, 135mm 2.0, 70-200 (Mk1+MK2).

I have found the exact opposite to be true for me personally. Took these over the weekend.

It locked on the cellphone screen and it was VERY low light, like no light.

Did they lock better on other bodies you had, did you do any MFA?

I find my 5D3 to also be focusing very well in low light at night and even in churches...

I haven't noticed any problems focusing in low light...

Heck, mine locked onto a bed post in my kids room in dang near complete darkness with the 580exII and then shot a sharp pic with the flash….same in my bedroom. It locked onto the edge of the alarm clock with just the light of the alarm clock.

It the exposure I am having issues with on this thing, personally.

Low light AF for me has been incredible. Sorry to hear you are having problems. Mine locks on to items I can't even see in the VF.

That would echo my experience as well, sometimes I wonder what the heck it sees to lock on that I can't. :)

Of course. As per the manual

Pressing the shutter button takes the picture immediately even if focus has not been achieved. This gives priority to getting the shot rather than achieving correct focus

I'm having just the opposite experience as you. I shot with the 100mm macro L in very low light and it was able to lock on perfectly. My friends 5D2 with a 100w bulb turned on was not able to lock on.

Could you explain a bit more about how you are shooting and what settings you are using?

+1.

Also what AF case mode are you using?

Not as drastically as some would hope but still besides out of this world AF system there is some improvement in that area as well.

I did a lot of candle lit Mass/services shooting with my 5d mk iii during the Easter Tridiuum. I'm helping out with an annual for our church. The camera locks and focuses very well.

yeah, the SNR seems to be too close to matter, but the DR improvements on the D800/5D3 are impressive!
