New Converter File Naming Scheme

So we temporarily had a new converter that creates tiffs (or bmp) from the original crw files, recognizing as was stated in another thread, one needs to retain the original crw as an archived "negative".

But...

The new converter bolluxes up the converted file names.

You may start out with Crw_4422.crw (or Crw_9742.crw if you're Pekka!) and when you get done running it through the converter you end up with something like CRW_1234_00001.tif, CRW_1234_00002.tif, etc.

How will we ever be able to relate the new tif to the original.

What would have been so difficult in naming the newly converted file 4422.tif, or Img_4422.tif, or 144_4422.tif.

Gee, it would be nice if the re-posted driver cleaned up this file naming mess.

I used the converter on several sets of files and now I HAVE NO IDEA of what tif came from what crw. I feel like a real dope!

Arrrrrgh!

Larry

This is one of the reasons they withdrew the new driver/converter...

I surely hope this is true!

If so I'd start using it again.

If you want to convert crw to tiff or something else, you can use Polyview (www.polyview.com (external link)) plus their CRW add-on. It's shareware, so for the time being you can try it.

I'm quite sure that Canon software developement does not use any external beta testers. The problems with their software could be easily detected corrected in a week if they were tested at all on real life usage and real users.

Im using cam4you to do all my conversions. Has anyone done any testing to determine the level of quality achievable using the different conversion programs? Im curious as to what kind of modifications are done with Cam4you. I havent used the raw converter because I do large batch conversions after a shoot and just let cam4you handle the entire thing. I've been very happy with the oputput and havent seen any way to set paramters within the program.

I do see that you can set paramters in the Canon raw converter though. What settings do you all use for this conversion? I think it would be good to do a survey to see how much or how little modification we all use during the conversion process. Personaly I want the raw data unmodified in tiff format and thats all I need.
