Have a family of these living in the back paddock.
They are getting used to us and this one was sitting on the front gatepost tonight.
Stalked him with the 7D and 24-70L combo and shot these in full auto mode with the built in flash. (Lazy I know but i'm not a "flash" person)
I was shooting from about 3m away and the AF light and flash only mildly annoyed him.

I may be wrong but I don't think this is an owl...its a close relative but more closely related to Nightjars...I think this is a Tawny Frogmouth or a Frogmouth of some sort based on the eyes, shape of the head etc...If I ever go to Australia I would love to see this species above just about any other. Nice shots by the way with the second getting more of my attention...
