How to carry a tripod

Is there any type of bag or case that the tripod can easily be put into kind of like a sword going into the holder? I don't really care for backpacks and all the straps so I usually just carry it. I would like something that I can pretty much throw over my shoulder

I have a Gitzo 2541 and Markins Q10 (which by the way still amazes me how awesome it is)

Well I am assuming those are bags more for transporting not carrying the tripod? I have a cheap bag but its flimsy and does not really do much good when hiking etc. I remember think tank had some type of bag that looked good but its not on the site anymore.

Would that strap work with the gitzo? thats actually something I have not thought of but seems more ideal ( and cheap)

I do have a streetwalker pro but I just don't like backpacks and I want it to be easy to pick up and carry but that seems to be the popular way to go.

I use this.

I just attach the camera and then carry it with the legs extended, over my shoulder.

I only strap it to my backpack if I'm really trekking a longer distance and I know I won't be shooting along the way.

Any reason to get a Gitzo strap over the OpTech? I think the strap will work for me. Are these pretty universal?

Haven't trtied the Gitzo; the OpTech worked well enough that I got another one for my other principal tripod.

Same here. Unfortunately, I purchased a camera bag that is not pleasant to carry and doesn't have a spot for a tripod. For public events, I usually just attach the tripod to my camera and carry them both by the camera strap with the legs collapsed.

My Induro tripod came with a nice carry bag. But I have never used it.

If you want a scabbord like a sword, this is what I use. You see it here with a monopod, but I've used it with one leg of a tripod in the sheath. Wear it on a belt. I use it on a photo utility belt. At www.maxpedition.com. Law enforcement use it for a flashlight or baton.
