Hi guys,

I just purchased the 17-40mm f/4.0L lens and also ordered the B+W 77mm UV Haze SC 010 Filter from B&H. Does anyone know if this filter will cause any vignette at the 17mm focal length? Anyone has any experience? This filter is not a slim one. The slim one is ~3x as much. Please let me know! Thanks!

Are you using this lens with a FF body or cropped body?

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I have protecting, clear filter on my 17-40, from another brand. It is not low profile filter.
No problem at 5D on 17mm.
Do you really need UV and Haze filter? Are you alpine photographer with film EOS camera?

No, I don't need a UV/Haze filter. I'm just using it as a protection filter.

Thanks for the response!

The 17-40 requires a filter to be weather sealed.

Gerally if you are going to purchase a UV filter for protection you want to at least get the MRC(multi coated) to minimize IQ loss and slims are reccomended for UWA lenses.

the filter alone should not cause any noticable vignetting.

if you stack a filter on top (ie: CPL), then you might see some but it's not a good idea to do that anyway :)

Absolutely. As any weather sealed L. But it doesn't require UV protection on DSLR body.

I use a 17-40 on a 5D with a B+W MRC UV, non-slim, and I don't have any particular problem with vignetting at 17mm.
