So then you agree with Adams? :D

I agree that gear alone does not make a photographer great. Again, that's a no-sh*t-Sherlock type of thing.

However, I have absolutely no problems with people buying more gear than they actually need. I do the same thing sometimes. It's not always about fullfilling an artistic vision. Sometimes it's about just buying stuff and enjoying it.

I tried to get him to realize it too...... He does agree with Adams. He knows that gear does not make a photographer good but that a good photographer chooses to use the best gear he can get. Adams never says that you can make great pics with crappy gear.

Thanks for your concern. Trust me, I get it. Perhaps you guys don't get that I get it. Again, I roll how I roll and I suggest people do the same thing and not read too much into anything Adams said.

Yes, gear alone will not make you a great photographer. That's been covered, ad-nauseam.

Nick,

I don't have a problem with it either. I think I said that in a previous post.

From your posts it was kinda hard to figure that out. Looks like I wasn't the only one.

Looking into the work and what the philosophies and the words of the ones that actually did it and will still be in the conversation when it comes to art and photography in another 50 years is time well spent. Knowledge is something we can never have enough of and its never been easier to obtain.

Reminds me of Big Bang Theory..... "Who knows how a combustion engine work?", everyone raises their hand, "who can fix an actual combustion engine?".... nothing.

Airfrogusmc, thanks for throwing out some names to study. I'm very new to the game and trying to learn as much as I can. Nicksan, thanks for throwing out lots of good stuff here. Nothing makes one think more than having a dissenting opinion.

T3i, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 30 1.4, 18-55 kit, 55-250, YN-565, a few books, some software, and a desire to get good.....

The cool thing is when you know some photo geeky stuff and also really know how to use it cause it can show up in your work.

I totally agree its always good to have different opinions on things and good discussion as we've been seeing in this thread.
