I'm thinking of treating myself to a new bag and the Billingham 07s look really nice but I'm not sure which one would suit my requirements. No dealers near me so can't really go and take a look

Hopefully someone one here who has one can help

I want it for days out with the family where the most I will be carrying is

1d4 with 24 70 fitted
2nd lens, largest possibility is 70 200 2.8 IS
3rd lens, 50 or 17-40
580ex

Maybe tripod straps on the outside if possible but this isn't a deal breaker as I don't normally take one on family days

Advice is appreciated guys. If anyone has pics then even better

Thanks

Very lucky to have a lot of nice toys :)

I just ordered a 307... I like the way the top opens. I also picked up a used ( model unknown ) one off ebay to compare the new one to. From what I can tell there is a 2" difference in LENGTH only with the 307 being around 14" inside, 207 12" and 107 10". I think they are deep enough to handle the 70-200 lens down.

I have all 3 and the 207 gets the most use. Although the other 2 get some use, but nowhere near as much. I love all 3 though. I can put a 70-200 f/4 ISL in there. Never tried an f/2.8 variety.

I have the 307 with tripod straps, never tried the 207 though.

The 307 was smaller than I expected, I have in it: 5D II w/o grip, 70-200 f4 IS, 35L, 50 1.4.
The 70-200 is fine standing up hood reversed but it wont fit with the camera mounted standing up.
If you keep the zipper open you could stack more stuff.

The tripod strap does not work very well for me. It's a bit loose, the added weight of the tripod kills me, my three sectioned tripod makes the whole rig too wide. I use a tripod bag instead.

By the way, the back leather strip gets worn after the first day, I'm sure it's normal wear and tear but be warned.

Excuse the cell phone pictures, the colors are off but they show my point.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like my day kit would fit in comfortably.

Also confirms that the tripod straps are a bit pathetic

Just got to decide if I want to blow a load of cash on a camera bag now. Decision, decisions........

If you are lucky you can find an used billy for half price on ebay. Just have to be patient.

Even at MSRP the bag is totally worth it. ;)

I have a Billingham 207 in which I have a 5D-II mounted to a 24-70L, 16-35L, and 70-200L-II (all f/2.8 sized with hoods) along with a 580EX-II flash. It is pretty full with just the basics, I don't carry a bunch of other "stuff" in it (well ... other than charger, memory card wallet, filters, etc). I sometimes substitute a 35L for one of the shorter zooms, or slip in a TC or two to extend the long lens.

As mentioned, the bag is not tall enough to put the camera mounted with the 70-200 inside and close it. Although I considered the larger 307 ... I don't know that I would carry that large of a bag as I do the mid-sized 207. I like the way these bags open wide ... and stay open, very easy to access. I also like the "inside handles" so you can pick it up and move it around while it is open. As shown, if not using the shoulder strap, you can tuck it in under the top cover to make a neat, easily carried satchel.

I don't carry a tripod on it ... it is heavy enough with just the lenses and camera!!

It is a handsome bag in black/black.

A handsome bag indeed, Howard.

I'm 5'10", I feel the 307 is a perfect size for me. I didn't pick the 207 because I thought it was more square like, and I wanted a rectangle shape.

By the way I just learned that you can cut the inside middle seam to make the two pockets into one big one, to put a small laptop or magazines. You can cut the front and/or back, but if you cut the front seam you are going to lose the two front pockets and it's going to look weird.

Why doesn't Billingham have this kind of opening on all their bags. So much nicer than squeezing cameras in and out through a half open slit with a zipper to damage stuff.

ANYONE have a Khaki color 207 or 307 for sale PLEASE PM me.

307 owners, is it possible to close the main flap and secure it on the tabs while having the main compartment unzipped? Hoping this will be a solution for body with 70-200L II attached....

I do that all the time, although not with that lens. Not convinced you would be able to buckle the straps with it standing up.
