So I went on a roadtrip and passed back+forth across a few timezones!

I used my GPS data logger...which I assume gets the UTC time from satellites?

So how can I properly tag my photos if my camera stayed in UTC-4 (EDT) but I went to Las Vegas, Utah and Arizona.. which each had different timezones?

What program are you using to tag the photos? How's your GPS set for handling time zones? I keep my GPS (Garmin eTrex Vista HCx) and cameras all permanently set to the same (home/Eastern) time as I do my computer, and with Downloader Pro from Breeze Systems I don't have problems.

I thought so.. but doesn't the GPS just use "GMT" ... ?

Using BT-Q1000. Don't see any way to read or set the timezone?

If it uses GMT, does the software ask about a camera TZ offset? I don't know that particular GPS logger; I go with full-function ones.

It does have some built-in photo tagger... but I never use it don't think it even supports CR2. I use lightroom after exporting the GPX file ...

Dragged down their manual, which isn't too helpful. Looks like you need someone else's software to tag your photos, and that should support time zone offsets.

The trick is to leave you camera on one timezone.

GPS signals are in UTC, and thus would need to be synchronised with your camera time.

The Photo tagging software you use should be able to work out the difference in time zone between the photo timestamp and the data, and indeed your computer.

You can try out our photo software (its free) and requires no purchase and copes with cr2 files.

Go to brothersoft.com and search for gtrek image viewer.

I hope that helps!

I suggest using a software like GeoSetter (google for a link). It will adjust itself for one time zone if you set an offset for it. You may have to play around a bit to get the right adjustment. The best way to figure the adjustment out is to take a photo of the logger's time and compare the time stamps.

GeoSetter will then let you adjust the photo EXIF for the correct time zone, if you want... Although, I'm not sure how well it will do if your photos are in multiple time zones. I've never tried that myself. The few times I crossed zones, I didn't worry much about the time stamps for that day.
