Canon 60D
Canon 10-22mm
Canon 24-105 F4
Canon 70-200 2.8 non Is
Canon 580 EX II

I usually shoot lots of daytime sports with my 70-200, so far I have been fairly successful and have made some cash from it... I ocassionally shoot birthday parties and look to expand into weddings once I have some 2nd shooter experience under my belt. I'm wondering if I should have gone for a 24-70 2.8 instead of the 24-105 f4... Would anyone reccomend any primes that would help substantially over what I have? Any improvements I can make to this setup?

Upgrade your body to 5D II or 5D III (if that possible)

Sell your 10-22 for funding 24-70L

Lol I knew I would get the full frame suggestion but unfortunately can't make that jump right now...

no need to get a full frame. id get a 17-50 tam,sig or the 17-55 if you got more dough. ive got the 17-50 tamron and its really up there next to my 24-70L minus the spectacular bokeh on the 24-70. it has very nice contrast and very sharp.

i think its very invaluable to have a 17-50 range 2.8 lens

you could sell that 24-105. its a really boring lens. at least i got bored of it quick.was one of my worst L's as well. worst being the 17-40.

17-55f2.8 and upgrade to mk70-200f2.8 if you are not upgrading to full frame is my first thought, but what's your budget? Maybe a second body with the 17-55 on one and the 70-200 on the other for weddings etc

If you are planning on staying with a crop body long-term, I would recommend the Canon 17-55 or the Sigma/Tamron 17-50. Having that f/2.8 is invaluable.

Perhaps you should also look at a prime? Minimally, it can't hurt to have a nifty fifty in your camera bag.

If sports is your primary subject, you may also want to consider the 7D.

If you are planning to shoot weddings you will need a second body; 50mm f1.4 is very nice on a crop, and you will need a 17-5X f/2.8 too.

70-200 IS/OS is nice too but not mandatory as you already have the non-is version.

I did have a 50mm 1.4 about 6 months ago and sold it, but have been thinking of getting another one... So far I like my 24-105 but want to shoot with it a little more to see if I like it enough, F4 with IS is ok, but I might be better off with the faster 24-70 2.8 which I have shot with before... As far as the 10-22 I think I will keep that around as I do love to shoot some landscapes. Maybe my question should have been what is better for wedding photography, 17-55 2.8, 24-70 2.8 or 24-105 F4 IS, I might just opt to rent the 17-55 to see how I like it. To make the jump to full frame I might just have to find a great deal on a 5D MK II... the 5D MK III would be a little much for now...
