I like it as well...ya might add some contrast in the shore area.

What, you live in the Moorish castle!? Cool!! :) I too was disappointed that I didn't do the place justice... Sintra was built for photographers... and so was Lisbon. It's a great area!

Here's one I got in a very brief moment between downpours:

I look forward to you posting up more Sintra shots!

About 45 minutes before sunset, its a long exposure, about 30seconds, it was exposed to the bottom rocks, +1 compesantion

Filters:
lee 3stop full ND
Hitech 2stop hard Edge, in a -30 angle (to the left)
Hitech 2stop Soft edge, in a -30 angle (to the left)

In Photoshop, curves, adjust the RGB individually, new layer, b&w mode, overlay blending mode about 20% of the b&w layer, some dodge and burning in darker/lighter areas and to disguise the straight line of the hard edge filter.

Im not a big fan of HDR, i respect people that do them in ways that almost look real, but 99% of the Hdr's looks to me unreal and fake, i prefer choosing a different time of the day and then try to control the available light using filters.

That's cool... you did a really nice job with that photo. I figured you used an ND filter in there somewhere.
