X-Rite has a free applet with which you can switch profiles. It is described here courtesy of Damo

Don't be put off by the fact that it says "Discontinued" on the X-Rite site, the link is still active. I use it every day to switch between my dim photo editing profile and a brighter surfing profile.

On Windows 7 tap the Windows logo key and type "color management" (without the quotes, of course) in the "Search programs and files" box. Press "Enter." That will bring up the Color Management control panel where you can select whichever of your profiles you want to be active.

With the Spyder Pro software there is a little app called Profile Chooser that lets you choose and load different profiles.

As Rimmer says, go to the display settings part of control panel, colour management, advanced properties and select the one you want. Hopefully you have labeled each in a way you can remember.

This will only be of use provided you can guarantee that you haven't adjusted any of the physical display settings accidentally. You are also recommend to re-check the profile periodically. It is not a one off thing.

The ICC/ICM profiles are stored in the Windows System32/Spool/drivers/color folder on your C drive and will be applied to the monitor/printer/scanner.... that are connected to the computer.

You do not need the Sypder software to utilize them. Once they are generated, they are used by your computer systems & devices, not the calibrating/profiling software.

As far as being compatible, they all take the same form so I would imagine that a profile generated by one piece of appropriate software would be able to be read & modified by another brand of the appropriate software.
