I just picked up a Lenspen and it has a side for actually cleaning oils and other things off the lens, then it has a side with soft bristles that are supposed to take off other things. Is a rocket blower still a good thing to keep in my bag and use instead of the brush?

Also if it is needed... would you say medium or large?

Medium is fine and IMO, a blower should be the first thing you use before a brush, pen or cloth.

I have both, each very useful. As FlyingPhotog said, use the blower first, then pen if needed.

Yes, you need both. Always blow off the sensor before doing anything else. It will remove what can be removed lessening the odds that you scratch the filter. Also, many times all that is needed is the blower.

... to keep in my bag ...?

To keep in your filthy bag where, whenever it gets crushed, it will suck up some dust? ;) Put some tape over the end to avoid that.

Some personal views on Sensor cleaning.

What I used: "Rocket Blower"? No. I picked up an ear syringe at the local drug store. Rite-Aid @ $5.99.

Heck yes! I have owned and used both for years! Always blow air first as its non-contact. And get the Large Rocket Blower, more pressure more air moving, get off more stubborn dust/dirt/whatever. And its not like you cant just squeeze it less for less air pressure.

The funny part was, when I bought my blower from Amazon the large was cheaper than the smaller ones.

They sell more of the Large. Its much more popular I think.

Be mindful that the large blower is HUGE. I have the medium Giottos Rocker blower, and it stands a good 6"+. I leave the blower at home so the size doesn't really matter to me, but if you plan one bringing this thing wherever you go (i don't see why you would), then you might want to consider a small/medium one.
