hi,

a week a go i baught a canon 100-400mm from my local jessops white city, west field, store manager at the time of purchase i was told they will refund the lens within 30 day of purchase provided it was in its original package.

Within the first week of the purchase I took the lens for a a replacement with a 400 mm 5.6 prime, at the time they did not have the lens but promised they would get it from another store so i could pick it up later on from my local store, but for the time being they gave me another copy ''a display copy'' to test and see if I would like that instead.

now today less than two weeks of the purchase I went back to the shop for a refund. I was surprised that they would not only refuse to give a full refund but forced me out of the shop by calling the security when i told them that i was within my right to request a refund, as i had only had the lens for less than two weeks.

the reason for refusal was that the lens had marks on the lens mount, now bare in mind that this was a '' display lens'' so it only stands to reason that others would have tried this lens before me hens the marks on the lens mount.

Please tell me am i wrong in demanding a full refund.

could some one also please give me some contact details so i can take this to their higher ups.

Did you use your credit card to make the purchase??? If so, contact your credit card company. Dispute the charges.

You have very generous return deals in the USA.
In most countries you buy something and provided it works and does what it is supposed to thats it, you own it.
Why would or should a store take it back?
Who do they sell the "slightly used lens to? I would not pay for a product at full price that is not absolute brand new in the box.

Are there try and buy laws in the USA where you give it a go or cant make up your mind and give it back slightly used?

Is Jessops a large chain store company? If so, contact their corporate headquarter. You have a receipt right? The store should have a store number (ie store# 1044 etc).

like i said it was a ''display copy'' so it was already tested and used by others in the store hens the marks on the lens mount.

but to answer you question, why should we buy as consumers buy something without testing it.

btw I am not in the US.

not missing anything i assure you, i might actually end up speaking to a lawyer depending on how much it will cost.

TooManyShots, it's a fairly large store, I am trying to get in contact with the regional manager.

Thanks for the suggestion

Yes, we do :D

When the stores get the slightly used lens back, they resell it as an "open-box" item. I don't think they sell it as "new in box" anymore.

I would contact the corporate office of Jessops first before contacting any lawyers. It'll be alot of headache if lawyers get involved. I think that should be the last resort.

Sounds like a poor business plan with reduced margins.

Well, they have a 30 days return policy, period. That's the end of the story. Does the receipt say that a full refund is possible depending on the discretion of the store manager??? As long as the SN matches the one on the receipt, that's the same lens the customer bought.

The first Lens was not display was it? was it not the one you got next?
I must be missing something, I wish I could do this with Cars, I would never own one, just keep returning it and getting another one as I changed my mind.
