Hello All,

I'm new to photography and I do apologize if this is not the correct area to ask this.

I use a Canon Rebel XSI and Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw. I need to know how to resize my photos to 8x10 without cropping it. Is this possible? My ideal size is that but I cannot figure out how to accomplish this. I searched in Google, youtube...etc

If somebody can help me with this I will really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Yeah, you have to choose between cropping it (to fill the 8x10 "frame") or like was suggested, fitting it in an 8x10 canvas (or setting up a print job that way).

Won't really help you with the shot you're trying to print now, but keep this in mind on future shots. If you intend to print 8X10, frame you're shots accordingly. Realize that you will need to crop from the sides and leave enough room to crop without destroying the composition.

Maybe I misunderstood the question, but CS5 has Content Aware Scale. Google it and see if that is what you are looking for.

Yup, you can make it 8x10 without cropping. There are several ways to do it. One is by using photoshop and content aware as tom1s mentioned, two by using the resize tool and uncheck the "constrain proportions" and change it to desired size or another way is to use the free transform tool and drag it to desired size. You may have to play with the last one a little to get it exact though...

Cameras - Canon 350D, 5D
Lenses - Canon 18-55mm, 75-300mm, 50mm f/1.8, 24-105L, 24-70L
Flashes - Yongnuo YN460 II, YN468
RF-602 transmitter and 2 receivers

It is always possible to crop the image for this one-off print, but not save the result. That way you have the original image intact for future prints at other aspect ratios.

I have recently decided to print off a lot at 40.5 cm x 30.5 cm, because it seems a nicer aspect ratio (personal choice obviously) and because it fits a batch of mounts, backing boards and clear envelopes I got from a framer at a very good price locally.
