Looks like the Nikon D800 and D4 are having multiple issues. Here is the link to an Endgadget post about it. Of course just like the 5DIII "problem", it doesn't mean that these aren't awesome cameras.

i read elsewhere the left side AF issue has been solved, it's an adjustment that Nikon can make if the body you have has it - not all do - and it will taken care of in all future production bodies. There are some very active discussions about these over on Fred Miranda and DPReview, takes time to wade thru them.
Here's an article on the lockup problem, looks a fw fix is coming.

I sure wouldn't buy one now, wait for the dust to settle on these things.

I have read more D800 issues then 5D3 ones by far. AF issues, green tint LCD, battery meltdown, battery door problems and a few others. But I guess since it's $500 cheaper it's ok :p

Light leak? Not a real issue.

I had a 2nd shooter at a wedding a couple of weeks ago with a brand spanking new D4. It locked up on him no less than 15 times, requiring him to remove and replace the battery each time. He said the D800 he also owned was locking up as well.

This kinda stuff is what makes me wait the urge to jump on board any manufactures new release. A couple of months patience generally is worth it in the end.

True, no reason to handsomely pay some multi-gajillion dollar company to be their beta-tester.

We are all always beta-testers of somebody else's product, in one way or another. ;) If not of the overall product, of some component inside.

how do you think your car warranty works? all issues are reported to manufacturer so they can make the next one better. does that mean you got shafted? no.....

Hmmm
I wonder how much effect the recent tsunami/earthquake has had on Japanese products as a whole?

I don't purchase a new model of anything, I'd rather wait and let the kinks be worked out before spending any money on something just hitting the street.

I don't need to get the latest and greatest of anything.

All cameras have their problems I guess. Maybe camera makers need to hire some real computer engineers, many of these sound like computer issues :p

Please. I'd still choose the $3000 D800 over a $3500 Mark III that's taped up.

Saying new releases are bound to have problems is not accurate. There have been countless new releases with no problems. People just selectively remember the negative and forget the positive.

There's a psychology theory that states we reinforce and recite failure over and over but never do that with success, but that's a different thread.

And you miss time shooting with a great camera :D Sure some products have bugs when they are first released but some products also have bugs latter on when "improvements" are made to the production line. It has a warranty so there is nothing to fear.
