Hi

may i ask a question?
i would love to buy one
but the leak and the tape , to be hoest ,demoralize me

i mean i own a 5d with the miror fixed , a 5d mark2 is ok

but i don't care so much about the leak , because i read that it doesn't change the real meter in the camera

do you know what will do canon for the future 5d mark 3 bodies?

will be all shipped with tape ? here is 3.500€ , is not cheap , i mean for 3.500€ i pretent a better fix

and i did plain a vacation in north africa, don't know if the tape will resist

thanks
cheers

If the root issue really won't affect you at all in normal shooting, whatever the fix Canon puts into place shouldn't really matter either. You have other tape on the body now, in several places there is single side, as well as double-sided tape.

Have you even opened up a laptop or almost any other electrical device? They almost all use tape in some capacity. This is a non-issue.

I am sorry, but you are being illogical about this. This type of type is already used elsewhere inside this and every other camera body. This includes your 5d mkII. I have one of the early ones and I wouldn't even consider sending it in for this "fix", as the light leak doesn't seem to effect anything.

What fix were you expecting? Why would they fix it any way except how almost all electronics manufactures solve these issues?

It will be fine with the tape fix. Obviously you know of the problem and know that it is the top LCD that causes the issue. It only causes the problem in really dark areas and only when you turn the top LCD on. Without the fix to avoid the issue turn the top LCD on, make your adjustment to the camera, turn top LCD off, take image.

Plus the tape is inside separating some electrical components, etc. It isn't going anywhere, it isn't on the exterior of the camera, etc.

The whole light leak is a non-issue. You can't reproduce it unless you shoot with a lens cap on.

The tape is a not an issue. Tape is used in everything from laptops to LED tvs.

Thanks to everybody
but do you think a very hot weather would not damage the tape ?
considering the tape is on the top of the camera, under the lcd ,i mean , a part of the body under the sun

thanks
sorry for my poor english

If the tape were to get so hot that it became damaged, your top LCD would already be toast, ie. damaged requiring repair. It will be fine, you will have nothing to worry about.

Have a look in the camera manual, there is always mention of recommended ambient temperature to operate your camera. I guess as long as you use your camera within those range of temperature you should be fine. Use it in an oven condition, I think not only that tape, but other tapes and electrical circuits in the camera are going to damage.

You'd be surprised how tough tape can be. Its engineered to be inside electronics. It wouldn't be in there if it couldn't do the job.

Excellent link--the kind of thing the camera magazines used to do.

What I see in that article is extreme attention has been paid to electronic integrity (short lines, extra shielding, robust connections) as well as easier service. I haven't seen a camera with design attention paid to being serviceable since the RZ67. This article illustrates what is probably part of the reason for that extra $500.
