I have two 7Ds and both have the same IMG**** file name in camera, is there any way of changing one of them, I can't find anything in the manual.

That only gives you the option to reset.
I've come from Nikon and that had a way of changing the letters so you could use something like IC1**** instead of DSC****

simplest is to set one to rgb an the other to adobe rgb the prefix will change.
Or determine the filename by setting it during download

I use Bulk rename utility, I copy the files to a new folder on the PC, rename them and shift them to wherever i want them. It stops my wifes photos and mine trying to share the same number.

I use Apple Aperture and would just do a sort by serial number and then a batch rename.

I don't think having one set as sRGB and the other Adobe RGB is a good idea, it just added another step in your workflow putting them back to the correct colour space if shooting in raw, and if you shoot in jpeg it's going to give you all sorts of printing issues..

I allways shoot raw and use DxO, I can set the target color space globally at conversion time, no extra step required.
For me it still is the simplest way to avoid duplicate filename.

Alternatively, I synchronize both cams with the computer using EOS utility, set the sequence nr manual at downloadtime, sort by exif-time and do a batch rename in order to have them numbered in a chronological sequence.
