Lately I've been exploring a different digital camera world aka Micro 4/3.
I will eventually purchase a 5dmk3 but I've been searching for a smaller alternative for high IQ system.
Seems in Canada the Olympus E-M5 is somewhat "unobtainium". Seems more distribution of this body in the US.
Anyhow I've recently compared a 5dmk3 vs. my OMD E-M5 regarding AF speed. As you can see I'm a heavy Canon user and will purchase a 5dmk3. However i'm utterly shocked how a little mirrorless M43 body can perform extremely well.
From my observation the AF on the Olympus is equal or even faster than the 5dmk3. Since you can touch the lcd on the E-M5 you can select a focus point and compose a photo in a matter of a split second.
My point of this thread is to provide awareness of how far along the M43 system has become. This is not an IQ comparison between the 5d3 vs Oly....we know who will win
I certainly hope Canon jumps on the mirrorless camera bandwagon. Sony's Nex 7 system is already using a crop cmos sensor but as far as high ISO performance is concerned I find it crippling. The Oly can provide on par to slightly better high ISO performance than my 5d classic.
The M43 IMO is not a dslr replacement (professional application) but it certainly has its place for people that adore photography. I'll have to admit the 9fps is nothing to laugh at using the little glorified P/S camera
As far as IQ is concerned I'd say the E-M5 has IQ easily comparable to a 60d/7D but without the manipulation of Raw files to get sharp images of the 7D. The file output of the E-M5 is extremely sharp sooc and the Raw files manipulate almost like my 5dc in LR4.1.
random pics from the E-M5 with panasonic/leica 25 f/1.4(50mm equiv on 35mm format). This was composed and photo taken merely by touching the lcd (not touching the shutter button). Split second composition. This is such a different world to my familiar canon world. This photo was taken in RAW and then I used the xrite passport as colour management.
