From the National Press Photographers Association.

The NPPA is disappointed to report that the U.S. Copyright Office is planning to nearly double the cost of registering your images. They have provided the opportunity for public comment prior to the change and NPPA will be submitting comments regarding the change.

The changes include increases in the cost of group registration of images from $35 to $65. We would like photographers to take a quick 3-minute survey to give us more information about how the proposed changes would impact you.

Our survey will close at midnight EST on May 10.

The survey is available at this link: https://www.****com/s/nppacopyrightfees (external link)

The public notice of the change is available at: http://www.copyright.gov/fedreg/2012/77fr18742.pdf (external link)

Photographers can submit their own comments at this link: http://www.copyright.gov/docs/newfees/comments/ (external link).

Many thanks,

Alicia Wagner Calzada

Just what we need more expense....
Sure lights a fire under me to get a bunch of stuff added..the positive..

I have at least 100000 frames..to add.. at $700 cost, plus many many hours..that I don't really have to spare.

Next year it will be $1300..adding that to any months bills is hard..grrrr
Just makes it harder on the Starving artist, that needs 'copyright protection' the most..everyone else is fine..

cheers

Why so much at once, why so much at all?

You don't have to register everything, just those that you really expect will see the light of day.

You don't have to register very nearly identical image--remember that copyright the registration of one image will effectively cover derivatives of it.

You can get quite a lot of images onto one application as long as you break up the upload before it actually times out. If there's a limit when you do it that way, I haven't had the patience to find it.
