Overcast day + being in the woods made for some high ISO shooting. Still, this fellow put on such a fine display that I just had to see if I could pull off the shots. While I've definitely seen better, I think these turned out ok....

Wow, Mike, quite excellent, and quite the handsome fellow, isn't he?

He seemed torn between fleeing for his life and posing for the camera. In the end he chose "flee, but verrrry slowly"
:D

Well done, Mike; it's a display one does not witness often.

One of the more beautiful grouse displays... lovely capture Mike.

I still am watching two drumming grouse who display tails at the end of the drum, but not the neck feathers... one I listen to drumming in the dark while I am sitting in my Wood Duck blind... not sure about that technique for romance ;)

I have a feeling there was a female just out of sight in the brush, maybe they save the full on neck ruff for female eyes...?
