Powershot S100 - How to turn on digital zoom?

How can I turn on my Digital zoom on my camera? in all modes except for movie mode it's blacked out/disabled..
Was trying to see what kind of moon pictures I could get on a tripod, but I need more zoom then the standard zoom.. Couldn't find it in the book and I couldn't find any info online when trying to search for my issue..

its not in any of the physical books.

its in the pdf manual on the CD. Digital Zoom is on page 50.

Ill save you the trouble of looking. Press "menu", go to the camera tab, select "Digital Zoom". there you can turn it on and off. default should be on.

hmm, there might be another feature causing it not to let you use it. one of those canon quirks.

What aspect ratio are you shooting? look at the image of the manual i posted. the last bullet. it one of those canon quirks.

I was on a different aspect ratio. I turned it back to 4:3 and I'm only allowed to use the digital zoom in Auto Mode? I was hoping I could use it on Manual mode..

oh wait, I got it to work in Manual Mode now. You have to use Jpeg Only mode to be able to use the digital zoom..
Not sure why the book says Raw+Jpeg when on that setting it won't allow it to me turned on unless I switch it to Jpeg only..

Glad you found the answer...same on the S95 and it took me by surprise at first.

yea those canon quirks are odd sometimes. go to the back of the manual, theres a functions list that tells you when and what function could be use in what mode/setting. its a massive gird chart that spans a couple of pages.

Moon shot was pretty lame, so this was my first and last attempt at that, lol..

I never got why people bother with the "digital zoom"...why not just crop in post?
