Canon DSLR Speed Challenge #238 - Mom

In honor of Mother's Day next Sunday, the subject is MOM. If your mom isn't close by or alive anymore, there are plenty of other moms around so don't let the title limit you. It doesn't have to be your mom or anyone you even know. I am looking for emotion in this challenge and I know you will all find something out there to wow me. This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 3 pm Pacific Daylight Time Saturday May 12, 2012. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work-safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 3 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time Saturday, 5 May 2012.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

Sure has been slim pickings around here lately so thanks to the three of you who played.
Jason, that is a perfectly captured moment of surprise. I love it!

Scatterbrained, what a special moment. I have pictures of myself doing that same thing. An amazing moment for all new mommies.

I plan on being absent the next 2 weeks as we are headed out on a road trip to Colorado, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho & Utah. I will have my Mac Book Pro with me so I may surprise you if the topic fits what I am shooting along the beaten path.

CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS!!!! Good challenge this week Mo. Just far to busy the last couple of weeks to shoot anything for me though I did have a concept thought up.

I really meant to enter but, although there are a lot of moms around, this topic is a surprisingly hard one for many people. One photography guru said in his book that the hardest assignment he sets his students is to take portraits of their parents, as most find that very stressful for whatever reason.

And speaking as a guy, approaching a strange mom on the street with her stroller or kids in tow and asking her to pose is also not that easy, so I chickened out this week, Maureen, although the subject deserved more than three entries.

No, Allen. We are headed to Mesa Verde Natl Park, Denver & then Rapid City for several days. From there, we will drive across Montana, then down to Sakt Lake.

A side or back angle; the birds & geese all have babies right now & there are lambs & colts all over the place here. I didn't say it had to be people.

Mo I forgot to mention earlier Durango is right near Mesa Verde....

Also wanter to say the drive up from Durango through Silveton to Ouray on US 550 is one of the great drives with all kinds of photo ops.

Unfortunately our Canadian climate is well behind yours in chick and lamb production. I do indeed have many shots of moms with chicks from past years but alas not taken with an EOS. But I really should have tried accosting a few photogenic moms in the park here - who knows, it might have led somewhere else than a 911 call
