I recently bought a couple of HiTech ND resin filters, including the 3.0 -- equivalent to 10 stops.

I used the 3.0 for the first time yesterday to take some long exposure images of the NYC skyscape from the Brooklyn side of the East River. The results were unsatisfactory with the 3.0, with a very strong magenta cast from the filters.

Has anybody else had the same issues?

These are the Cokin P size equivalent resin filters.

Sample image is attached.

I had the hitech 10 stop pro-stop filter. I returned it because of unacceptable casting. Yours looks better than mine. Your cast is uniform. Mine was blotchy. You're going to get cast no matter what 10 stop filter you go with, you just need to set a custom white balance for it. That looks strong, but correctable.

Yikes!

Hitech is good for 2 and 3-stop filters. But when it comes to 10-stops, Lee (if you can get your hands on one) is the way to go.

That is much better than my copy, mine has a geen cast that is not fixable. So I convert all my images taken with it to black and white.

Thanks for trying, but Photoshopping did not help. Verizon building on the right is white, Brooklyn Bridge is a light gray. I played with the image myself and it is not worth the effort.

The "N" in ND stands for neutral, which these filters clearly (ahem) are not.

Well I had to guess as I had no frame of reference for what colors buildings are supposed to be there. Supposedly the ProStop versions are better corrected for this.

I agree, at least according to reviews, not comments on POTN. However, this particular photo looks exactly like the old 3.0 ND filter from Hitech, not the Pro Stopper. The flare looks exactly like that in this review:

Everyone seems to have a different opinion regarding the new one, though. http://blog.robertstrachan.com …4/hitech-pro-stop-review/ (external link) shows the copy Strachan got was very much like the Big Stopper.

Right -- the photo was made with the old filter, not the Pro Stopper, which costs much more.

Still, one would expect that the old filter would not be as crappy as it was.
