Well, we had a very picky Ump, and he MADE me stand behind a certain area, just outside the dugout. So, I had a bad angle, and I was very annoyed! I usually like to go stand out between home and 1st, but he wouldn't let me. UGH!
Yep, I have gotten those umps too. Keep in mind, it isn't always the umpire who is making the call, it could be the other coach forcing the umpire to enforce the rules.
In fact, I have already been told that I am not allowed on the field to take pictures of my kid's team once the playoffs start.
Strictly holding to the rules of our league (and I would bet that most leagues are like this), they specifically state that only a certain number of coaches, at certain locations on the field are allowed out there. Since I am not out on the field as part of the league (shooting both teams), I would be considered a "coach" for my kid's team, thus in violation of the rules.
I can definately see how I could exploit being alowed on the field on top of the other coaches too. Often times I am set up opposite of our dugout. When we are in the field, we are allowed 2 outfield coaches (must be behind outfielders) and one infield coach who must stay pretty much right in front of the dugout. When I am setup on the other side, I have noticed it is very difficult to hear the infield coach over the cheering parents, so I could very easily exploit my position and give instructions to the players closest to me.
Heck, even being set up on the same side as the coach I have noticed specific things that should be corrected/brought to the coaches attention, but I have withheld.
Due to this I am very cautious to not say anything while the inning is in play. That said, sometimes when I am up against the fence, I realize that a matter of 3 inches from where I am (other side of the fence), I can scream anything I want. LOL.
