Sell 7d and buy 5dm2 ?

Guys I own a 7d and FF attraction surrounding me...unfortunately...

Here is the deal ;

I got sigma 10-20 and 30mm

I will sell both lenses and my 7d body to buy brand new 5Dm2body ... Is it really worth it?

The only lenses left will be my nifty fifty and 70-200 f4is...

Is it a good deal?

I generally shoot portraits of friends and family... and some still life kinde photography..

It really depends on how much you use the 10/20mm.
The 50mm will give you the same FOV on a FF cam as the 30mm does on the 7D but the DOF will be different.
The 70/200 will appear shorter on the FF than the crop.
If you don't need the AF system and the frame rate on the 7D and can live without the UWA then go for it.
Personally I would keep the 7D as I would find the lens choices you are left with too restricting.
When I bought my 7D it was a toss up between that and a 5DMk 11,for what I wanted as a general purpose do everything hobby camera the 7D was a better choice.

Is there something seriously missing from your 7D images? You are giving up a lot for questionable returns. The 5D series cameras are excellent, but they aren't magical.

5D2 or 5Dc or 5D3
means you need some L lenses
need more spending money
the 7D gives you a good reach
5D for Landscapes photos and professional uses
but some people not spending more money
and they use the 5D with one lens like the 50mm 1.4 and they feel happy with its great image quality
its your choice

If you enjoy your current setup, there is not much reason to change.

You know the sigma 30mm works fine on a 1D(it does).

If you enjoy the current setup, you'll really enjoy shooting a 50mm lens on a 5D. Don't get too hung up on sharpness with either setup as all the lenses you have are very sharp.

Actually I would argue that the 7D needs L glass due to its pixel density and needing very good resolving optics. The lesser lenses actually work very well on the FF bodies. For example the 28-135 isn't anything special on a crop, especially an 18mpx crop, however put on a FF it produces wonderful images.

@OP, I agree with Woolburr. If you are not able to get shots you like with your current setup, determine what the factor is, and decide if selling off 2 of your lenses and the 7D is worth the effort to go out and buy a used 5D2 and new glass.

yes you are right
put the 50mm 1.8 on the 5D2
it will gives you some magic photos
i had the 5D2 before but i sold it for a good price

I have both and if I had to keep just one camera, it would be the 7D. The focusing system is better suited for what I shoot.

I had a 7D, and wanted to try FF. I picked up a little used 5Dc ($800 for body, Canon grip, 4 batteries, RRS L plate and all the boxes/docs). It's a very nice camera.

Is there any differences between 5dc and 5dm2 in terms of IQ?
I can keep my 7d and lenses and afford to buy a 5dc used maybe..Do you advice it?

A refurbished 5D II from canon costs around $1,700, although the warranty is shortened to 90 days. I would keep the 7D since it's a faster camera and has a supposedly better focussing system than the 5D II, and buy a refurbished 5D II for the excellent FF sensor. These two cameras would "nearly" make something like a poor man's 5D III

Besides, you can use EF lenses on both. Also, take a look at the "post 7D pictures in here" thread. It's very interesting, and you will be amazed.

i bought a 5dm2 from canon using the CLP for ~1500

i upgrade from a 60D, not looking back.

In the middle of going from a 7D to a 5d2.

5d2 feels like a piece of old world technology compared to the 7D.

Nice files out of it though, bought mainly for 17-40L and 24tse etc.

I had a 7D before I bought a 5DII. I had them both for a while before I decided the 5DII was being used the most and the 7D was to go .. so I sold it, I have to admit I haven't really missed it much.
One day when the 5DIII drops to a realistic price I'll replace the 5DII as well .. but that may be some time away

I shoot wildlife and landscapes .. and the grandkids

I loved my 7D and almost kept it along with the 5D II I added. In the end I could not justify 2 $1K+ bodies and I sold the 7D. Bare in mind I still have the 1D IIn for sports which is all I would have used the 7D for at this point. The 7D is still the best all around DSLR Canon offers IMO for under $1500 including the 5D II which you can get used for that. I will say I spend less time in post processing with the 5D II than I did with the 7D and can have cleaner high ISO images. I don't miss all the time spent on sharpening and NR.
