So I was looking at my Flickr account the yesterday and since I haven't really been taking any new pictures lately, my views are pretty low typically. When I haven't uploaded a pic in a week or so, I average 40-80 views per day on average. When I post a new photo I would say I go to 100-300 for the next 2-3 days.

Well I cruise over there yesterday and see that I have 1300 views! Then I see it is all on one photo. Things got crazy at work so I couldn't investigate, but when I come back I see im up to 3000! I check the referrals and see that the majoity is split between unknown source and Reddit.

After looking into it I saw that someone had linked one of my Occupy photos in the Occupywallst thread.

This was taken a few minutes ago. What's nuts is that photo I took in October (which I've edited a few times since then and just replaced on Flickr) had maybe 150-200 views a day ago, pretty crazy right? I know some people here get 1000's of views a day but I just thought this was pretty cool.

That's interesting -- do you have the link to the Reddit page?

You can count me as one of those that saw that photo. I always wonder if any of the photos I see on their are originally from someone on here.

Ha nice!

What's funny is that it's gotten 7k views and only one comment

Yeah, those types of social sites can generate a ton of traffic in a very short period of time. I've been on Digg a couple of times and it can literally bring your web server down. On my first occasion it took my server down in less than an hour. The second time, I had prepared for it, by using a caching plugin, but then I ended up having to kill my server myself, as I was maxed out on my monthly bandwidth allotment on my server, so I had to pay by the GB after that point. It was cheaper/easier to just take the site down for the rest of the weekend.

The only problem with these is that nobody comes back, so there's not much point in it, unless you're just looking for exposure.

But, it's nice to be a rockstar every now and then, eh? 8-)

I'll submit content to /r/itookapicture or /r/photocritique once in a while.

Traffic to my photo page skyrockets for that day. I rarely get any useful feedback or constructive comments.

I posted a YouTube video I did to /r/photography on a DIY backdrop mount in my garage. Petapixel.com spotted it and posted it. I had a HUGE spike in views but the traffic has completely dried up.
