Hello All!

I'm a newbie, 2 weeks in photography and no classes. Just learned recently about Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO in youtube videos :) I love photography but don't have a clue. I recently bough an Canon XSI and if I learn enough, I may upgrade to a 7D on the future depending how it goes :)

Below are some of my first shots. PHOTOS TAKEN WITH 18-55 KIT LENS.

Please feel free to provide critique, provide tips and so on...

Before you run out and buy a 7D, it would be wiser to work on your technique with what you have. These two shots can be improved more by composition choices and camera settings.

I like the diagonal boards in the dog shot. However, you were far enough away that it should have been a full-body shot. Yet you cut off the rear. If you were going for portrait, then you needed to get down to the subject's level and fill the frame with its face. A horizontal frame might have been better.

The bolts are interesting. However, it doesn't quite look like they're in focus. You stripped the exif information from the image file. So I can't comment on your choice of depth of field or perhaps camera shake as contributing factors. I don't think you need the featureless white band at the top in any event.

Honestly by the time I shot the bolts, I was using Full Auto (Newbie first time). I have a lot to learn. Thanks though

The camera can take as good pictures as any other. You should just shoot till you wear it out. Also, if you feel the need to expand your horizons by spending money, buy an 85 prime. It'll blow your mind to play with dof and a fast lens. Also, if you have money left, get an external flash. Both these things will be good for your next camera body too.
