Depends on what you are using it for. I shoot recreational softball from actually on the field (I'm pretty much standing where the base coaches stand). With the shutter speeds I'm using, I have no need for IS. Although I think people say the IS version does have better optics.

I've had both (good copies of both) and there's no real difference from what I can tell. The IS is a tiny bit sharper.
