Great shots Brian, although I am just looking at one at a time.

You'll have to practice some more at viewing these- It's worth it honest:)

Okay, great shot, but buckle up for the noob question of the week.
"how do you find the flies or set your gear up to take these insect macros?
Is there bait or camera is preset and focused?"

You can see some info on how I do my shots here
http://www.flickr.com/groups/mimicry/discuss/66514/ (external link)
that includes a link to a pic of my rig.
I do my shots handheld so it's normally a case of hunt the fly, close in and take a shot- or in this case two shots for the stereo. No baiting involved- as these are all shot in my garden I've got pretty good at knowing what bugs like going where at any particular time of the day and season.

Great macro: it gave me the shudders to look at it! I have adjusted a vertical misalignment of 3 pixels and corrected a rotational error of -0.8 degree to make the image more pin and pushed everything back behind the window.

You get the idea, now, Brian, I'm sure!

Thanks Balliolman :)
Looking closely at the difference between the first pair and this pair, I see the horizontal FOV is slightly different between the pair in your re-do, is it this that tends to push the image behind the window?
Beginning to get the idea I think. It's interesting actually- I think my personality type is showing through in these (did loads of those wonderful tests on management courses). I used to be classified as a "Plant"- Love playing and trying to do new things but quickly lose interest until something else comes along :)

Yes, it is a result of pushing behind the window. With your macros try to get some margin around your main subject at the composition stage. When overlapping chips to make the stereo the excess margin can be chopped and not a part of the subject.

Thanks Chemicalbro,

Still seem to be able to find flies spiders and hoverflies on one bush in my front garden whenever the sun is shining (it's a camelia)- not sure how long they will last - though I've been saying that for the last 2 months!.
