I have literally about 2,000-2,500 photos but here are just a few. I'm still shooting with a Canon Rebel XS and Canon 50mm 1.4 - I shoot in manual at concerts, always, which has its benefits (not missing great moments because your light meter wants to send slow your shutter down to "5) and downfalls (underexposed photos as stage lighting flashes on/off).

Any critique or criticism is greatly appreciated!

4. Also got to go on stage and photograph it. I was the only one so I was really stoked.

You took 2500 photos which I hope means you shot the whole show.

Shots 1 and 2 are good photos on their own. But together they are the same photo. Its almost exactly the same shot. If you took 2500 these look like numbers 102 and 103 in the sequence. Number 2 is the better shot to me. You see more of his face and I like the lights.

Number 3 isnt much different either. Especially the angle. I would also crop the headspace at the top a little.

A big part of what we do is what we choose to show. 2 almost identical photos takes away from the set more then it helps. Showing one of them makes it look like you got "the shot".

I have shots that are wall hangers that no one has ever seen because they look too much like other photos I chose to publish.

Number 4 I would crop to get him out of the center of the frame and to get the bassist out of the frame completely. its a good shot although its a shame about the mic stand in the way.

2,500 photos? How long is the show?

I like no.3.

I agree with Cosmo though, 1 and 2 is essentially the same, and 3's not much of a variation.
But excellent shots nonetheless.

Yeah, there were 2 other bands and it was a 4 hour show. Lighting at this venue is very hit or miss, so I shoot continuous sometimes if I see the lighting is perking up. You only get 3 songs per band typically. This show, I happened to be allowed to shoot on stage for the rest of this particular band's set because the tour manager somehow OK'ed it

Yeah, this is mostly again about lighting. Lighting here is awful 99% of the time. The lighting on the other 2 bands was all backlit, hardly any front lighting. But, here I shot in bursts and I liked both the yellow and blue/purple combinations. The reason the shots look so similar is because the singer wasn't moving much (on the stage, nor on his body much). I agree #2 is better though.

Number 3 isnt much different either. Especially the angle. I would also crop the headspace at the top a little.

#3 I was actually right under the singer, whereas the other two I was stage left, but I agree about the crop

I actually did crop it the first time around but I *typically* shoot more journalistic and like obstructions in the photo to give it character/realness if that makes any sense? Probably not  Maybe I will give it another shot at cropping but I actually would just shy away because of the background fans, especially the one at the very end with her phone out.

Thanks so much for the critique!

^Bold mine

Another thing I should note is a lot of my shots end up being centered recently because my AF is not working right, unless I set it on center focus only. I should probably get it fixed, huh?
