After shooting my nieces wedding a few weeks ago I took the lens off my 5D to find that the mirror has become detached from its plastic perch. Thank God it waited till AFTER the wedding had been shot! It looks to be in perfect condition only loose from where it belongs. I haven't touched it, just gently shook the camera until it went back to where it belonged and re-attached the lens keeping everything flat so it wouldn't try to relocate.
I guess the question is whether re-attaching this mirror is something I can do myself and of so, what is he correct procedure for accomplishing this task. Thanks for any and all help!!

Many 5Dc's have had this problem, so Canon will fix the mirror if you send it in. Here is a thread discussing it.

Canon sent a recall letter to original registered 5D C users.
They put a support bar on and it prevents the mirror from falling off.
Also will clean and lube your camera after they put the bar on.
If you request shutter click count ... they will aslo do this.
Some have had this problem while shooting and it causes big damage.
You don't get out much.

yep, happened to me this past January during a shoot. Thank goodness I had the 7D as a backup. I called up Canon, and they emailed me a quick form to fill out with directions. Took about 10 or 11 days from when I sent it out, not bad service at all. They even did a free clean and check, including the sensor and optical viewfinder.
