Took a little while to work on my photos, but here is my first large contribution to the transportation section. This is the Chino Planes of Fame airshow on Saturday. I shot with the 50D, TC 2x MkIII on the 70-200 IS MkI, and most airborne shots were using 1/125 to 1/160, and taxi shots were 1/100. I wasn't very happy at first and thought it was the lens setup, but after focusing (no pun intended) on my panning skills there was improvement.

Here's the random sample of everything, and I still have many more to go through and process. I have tried to clone out the power lines, high tension wires, taxi lights, etc but am still learning how to do it using LR3. Please critique and let me know the good and the bad.

Hope you like them, and thanks for looking.

Great set Harry! Chino can be a b*tch to shoot depending on angle and time of day so I'd say you milked it for everything you could get.

The 190 + 47 combo alone would have been worth the trip.

Wish my ISAP airfare hadn't cost me my Chino fund. :(

Thank you Jay. Coming from the master those comments mean a lot. Yes, with the haze it took a while to increase the levels in PP to get them to look like this. After years going to airshows there were still plenty of aircraft flying there that I had never seen in person.

Good stuff Harry, I'd love to see that Flying Wing or the FW190 on the east coast...I'll just have to settle for someone else's pictures :)

Thanks Chris. Yes, that would be nice for a traveling road show.
I grew up in Toms River and went to Lakehurst NAS and McGuire AFB airshows when I was a kid. Lots of 35mm shots back in the day. Some day I need to convert those slides into digital and resurrect the Vulcan bomber, Thunderbirds (T-38s), Blue Angels (A-4s), F-4, C-141 and C-130 airdrops, etc...

Yeah the lighting at Chino is a pain. In the morning you are shooting into the sun and in the afternoon the same. This year it seemed as there was quite a bit of haze as well. Nice thing though with Chino you really do not have to be per say right on the fence line. You can move around if you want.

These look a tiny bit on the dark side, but it's an excellent set of images!

Thanks for the comment. Yes, looking at them online they are a little darker than on my computer. I'm still playing with the levels in LR3 to tweek them a bit. I can try to edit them a little more and replace the darker ones on the first post.

Oh, you said the lighting at Chino is a pain? Yes, this is true. Oh, you meant the sun light! ;)

Yes, lighting at Chino makes for some rare good lighting moments. I have experimented with locations and settled on the corner and back behind the crowd. This is slightly better than showline. For some shots I move to the crowd line- this year I shot all crowd line shots from the Oracle/Sean Tucker chalet.
from the corner...
