Hi Guys

I couldn't find reference to it here but is a firmware update to V2.0.3. necessary when I purchase the 580EX.

Nah it should go fine. There's no reason not to apply the firmware update, I did it to one of my 20D's and it works the same as before.

But why would you not do it. Is there a reaason not to?

I do pretty much as soon as they come out. I usually give them a week or two. Then read the forums to make sure their OK.

This firmware update (version 2.0.3) incorporates the following corrections and improvements:

1. Fixes a problem in color temperature information transmission that occurred when using Speedlite 430EX.
2. Improves communication reliability when using some CF cards.
