some of you may like to see the spider with the butterfly which got caught in it's web
I was standing on a chair, and reaching high, taking the shots as the spider had made the web between two high walls (over seven feet) outside the kitchen door

True. But then again, when you think about it, everything seems to be a food source for so many other things. Guess its good to be at the top of the foodchain. :)

Great Pics by the way. And excellent timing. Wish I could capture a shot like that.

Poor buterfly. I saved one from the big ugly redback I posted. It was caught under the shade cloth. So I put my hand where it could get on and took it out to open air and off it went :)

very many thanks Bald Eagle, Tammie, Dennis, CDC, Frank, Bruce, BigAl, Hidden Forms , Sandy, Brian and Peter

Tammy, it is a beautiful small tortoiseshell butterfly
far as I can make out

I have a different picture of one ( shown below)
I took the butterfly shot around that time also
coincidence just, but it may make up for the sight of this one being trapped in the web
being a smaller then usual butterfly, probably why it got caught.
I'm not sure

Dennis, I took these shots over two years ago
I was always into macro , right from the beginning, even with my old Minolta SLR camera.
I thought the pictures of the spiders may have been seen on my website
but then thought, if they were not, they maybe they would be of interest now.
they are not extra well taken but it's always interesting to see how the creatures behave as it's not everyday a butterfly gets caught in a web
I never had seen it happen before
seems the spider had breakfast dinner and tea all together

Sandy, you mention I must have been standing on the chair a long time
too right:lol:
my arms were aching holding the camera at certain angles as the web was big and the spider moved around twisting and turning a lot
it was not a pleasant sight (or task, taking the shots)

anyway, it was over two hours taking the shots altogether
but I think I left the scene for a few seconds (now and again ) to see to things in the kitchen

I mean  the spider was cooking
so was I

life goes on
and lots of other butterflies go on to live another day
:D

Peter, even if I could have , it was too late for me to save anything
I guess it's just the nature of things and each insect has to fight for his food.
survival of the fittest and all that:confused:

what happened here was like the Lion eating his catch
(when he catches it) it's all horrible stuff to watch or think about
but going on all the time

many thanks all:cool:

thanks a lot Brian
that was on the main street of a local town
I was passing by and saw the butterflies landing in droves on the flowers planted there
I got the camera out real quick

bending down so low, trying to get close to the butterfly I felt a bit (
very) odd
I must have looked it:lol:
and I am certain sure some people passing by thought that I was trying to take the flowers, roots and all
as the camera could hardly be seen among everything
