I bought this bag last month, for a trip to see my family in England and photograph a family member's wedding. I took:
40D
7D
Tokina 12-24
Tamron 28-75
Canon 70-200 f4 IS
Canon 85 f1.8
Speedlite 580 EXII
Macintosh laptop
Various chargers, spare batteries, adapters, etc.
My Kindle (to read on the plane)
A lightweight cardigan
It all fit easily into the bag, which weighed 21 lbs when full (1 lb under the carry-on limit) and was also well within the carry-on size limit.
I used the bag at the wedding, to shoot out of, and it worked nicely. It was very handy to be able to get at the camera without taking the bag off my back. While I don't usually like sling bags, I converted this one from a backpack to a sling, just for the wedding, and it was a little easier to manipulate. So the conversion ability is a nice feature.
A couple of negatives: Although under the carry-on weight limit, the bag felt heavy. By the time I'd negotiated the Heathrow flight connection maze, I was wishing for something with wheels. Also, the small chest strap that holds the backpack straps together fell off during the wedding. I was lucky not to lose it.
Conclusion: There's no perfect bag, but this one did a great job. It can carry a lot of gear plus a laptop, and allows you to access the gear without taking the bag off. I'm very pleased with it.
