Hi everyone!

I'm looking for current advice on what device I should buy for portable photo storage. I'm just venturing into weddings and want to be as prepared as possible. Posts on this topic within the forum seem to be a few years old. What device should I buy and why?!? Not too concerned about the price. I'd rather pay for quality.

Thanks,

Maigan

Use this link (external link), refresh it regularly, buy it as fast as you can when it is in stock, then sit back and profit.

Otherwise, check out any of the Epson P-XXXX listings on eBay. They are great for storing, backing-up and photo viewing.

Or, if you already have a tablet, most of those work great. Especially if you have access to expandable storage, either from (Micro)SD cards or attached hard drives. Any Android with Honeycomb or, even better, Ice Cream Sandwhich will work very well as a photo backup and viewing device. If you go iPad, get the most memory you can afford from the get-go. For augmenting iPad storage, a few options exist like the HyperDrive (get the UDMA model). But I think that method is cumbersome, YMMV.

Or, if you don't want to spend a few weeks waiting for one to be available. And if you want something that really is fast and really does have a long battery life then click here (external link).

Do a search here for PSD or Portable Storage Device and you'll find a lot of people recommending the Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA. That's because it really is jolly good.

Is this to be in lieu of a laptop with internal or external hard drives? If you have laptop you can of course connect external card readers and hard drives via USB 2 (very slow), FW 800 or, USB 3.

Another thing to consider...get larger cards such as 32GB, 64GB..etc from a good brand (Lexar, Sandisk). Leave them in the camera where they are safe until you get back to your studio where you can download to the desktop.

Second that. Although I use two Colorspace UDMA's, and keep two copies of important all shots.

Buy the empty case (external link)and install your own laptop drive to save about $200 per Hyperdrive. If you look in the list posted below the picture of the drive, you will see the specifications for the drive. I use a 750GB drive in each.
